Florida is a land of rivers, beaches, swamps, wetlands and magnificent forests. Besides Maine's North Woods, Florida has the most remote tracts of land left in the eastern US. Marjorie Stoneman Douglas Wilderness is the largest designated wilderness east of the Mississippi. Florida Forever is the nation's most aggressive and successful state-sponsored land acquisition program, which has conserved more than 1.5 million acres in 10 years. In this gallery you will see some of Florida’s most threatened, remote and spectacular landscapes.You will see images from Eric's 36-mile hike through the 750,000-acre Big Cypress Preserve, and images from the remote coastline of Cape Sable in Everglades National Park. You will also see many images from the Santa Fe River, only a few miles from Eric's hometown. Whether easily accessed or far into the backcountry, Florida has much beauty to offer.
