On September 22, 2009, I embarked on a 14-day solo trek through North Cascades National Park. As my first successful solo trek of two weeks or more, it is a milestone. This film is my story from that experience, and it is my first multimedia production.

Ever since I started combining backpacking and photography, I’ve dreamed of going to the places that few people could. I have dreamed of telling stories of experiences in wild places, of rivers that no one has heard of, waterfalls without names, giant trees that have never seen an axe or bulldozer, of one mountain in a sea of siblings.

I asked myself if I was capable of hiking for 28 days, without resupplying, through a mountain wilderness in the United States. Could I cross Washington’s Cascade crest, penetrate Idaho’s wilderness core, sail Montana’s Rocky Mountain Front, wade Florida’s River of Grass? Why would I do this? As a challenge to myself for one. To do something “of consequence” for another. Most of all, to share with people my appreciation for the majesty of nature. My passion is for wilderness quietude taken to the nth degree.

In 2002 I backpacked with four friends for 16 days through the North Cascades. In 2005 I started backpacking solo. A year later in September 2006 I attempted a 21-day solo trek into central Idaho's Boulder-White Clouds. That attempt failed when more than a foot of snow dropped where I was camped. Three years later, almost to the day, I gave myself another chance by treking solo for 14 days through North Cascades National Park.

Very cool eric! I finally got time to watch it. What an amazing trip that must have been. Good for you man. I really like the before and after weight shot and the good day bad day one.

Well Captured. I felt like I was there, except my feet dont hurt.

Beautiful! What an awesome tribute to such a beautiful landscape. Also, a great reminder of why our parks are so precious.
BTW - when the camera was on your pack... really felt like I was riding along piggyback. Thanks for the ride, man. Could you take me to Glacier next? :D

Someday Dale
written by Eric Zamora , November 01, 2009

I hope to see you on the trail one day as well Dale. If you see someone with a tripod and a camera strapped to a huge pack and a determined look in their eyes, stop that person and ask them their name. It's probably me!

Awesome!

I new this would be good, but I can't believe how truly wonderful this is Eric. It was like reading a very good classic book and not being able to put it down until finished. One to be read over and over again.

Wow what an adventure and truly well documented and interesting film. It is a lifetime treasure.

Love and blessings to you in your travels.
God speed

It warms my heart
written by Eric Zamora , October 30, 2009

It warms my heart to read the comments you all have posted about my video. Truth be told, it was a project quintessential of my life and my business – flying by the seat of my pants. I had only a vague idea of how the video would flow when I started creating it, but I knew that once I started, everything would fall into place. Twenty six minutes is a tough sell. The fact that people have not only endured through that 26 minutes but that they enjoyed every second, gives me the confidence to move forward in pursuing my dreams. Thank you.

Eric, this is fantastic. You obviously had a vision and achieved it with flying colors. Well, done, I am impressed. This does not seem like your first multimedia project. Keep up the good work, you have tremendous momentum.

New to video???
written by Dan Eschenfelder , October 28, 2009

You're kidding right? I gotta be honest with ya, when I saw the runs time was 26 mins. I swallowed hard. But when I started watching, I truly could not stop! Eric, you did it brother. This was a very enjoyable piece. Perfect documentation of an OBVIOUSLY very difficult hike — even more so with 20 extra pounds of photography equipment to haul.

Fantastic job Eric. Looking forward to your next piece.
